I have been playing every version sense I first saw Amelia play the game, and I have some questions & thoughts I would like to share with you KevinCow.
1. Progression
It was annoying to have to replay older stages just to try out the new stages as soon as possible. Would it be possible to implement a password system that just unlocks all the stages available for playing in future updates?
2. New Level: Here Comes Hope by IRyS
I LOVE what you did for the stage of IRyS; very creative. Although I will say, I hate that part with the Bubba floating back and forth with spikes floating around him. I died so many times either to hitting those spikes or trying to avoid them only to fall down a death pit from not being able to land on the platform perfectly after the switch. I died so many times there at one point I thought that the hazard was removed to make getting through the area easier, but to my disappointment it turned out it was just at its farthest point away from me in its pathing at the time...
3. New Level: Reflect by Gawr Gura
I was greatly disappointed by this level. It seems like it would make for a better level of one of IRyS' other songs. The long stretches between checkpoints made progressing really frustrating. When I heard the euro beat remix kick in after the switch I was expecting the stage to get more speedy and encourage you to run back, but I was disappointed to find it had the same slow progression as the first half where time was taken up by all the instant deaths and lack of check points. Is this the only stage Gura will get now that she has been given one, or are you open to the possibility of making a stage more thematically connected to her character in the future?
4. Dancing Smol Ame
Would it be possible to add a feature to where, while you are standing still, if you tap the down direction enough she will start doing her little dance? Sometimes I just find myself wanting to groove to the music a little and having that seems like a cute little thing to be able to do.
5. Smol/Walfi Skins
Would it be possible to get Smol/Walfi skins for all the characters in the game? I do like that characters have a look that matches their stages, and I especially love the dancing HoloBirbs, I just get this odd feeling of incompleteness from seeing only Ame and Gura with Smol forms in the Smol game.
6. Ame's Office, Cork Board, Hololive EN
Would you consider adding Haato and Coco to a corner of the cork board? Maybe even with a big question mark pinned next to them? As a nod to them being referred to as part of Hololive EN 0.
7. Level Select File Cabinet
Would you consider adding a level select feature to the starting area? It would add some convenience, especially as the map to select stages gets bigger. I was thinking a file cabinet we could ground pound to open up a stage select menu like we are going through some old case files would be the easiest method of implementation. Or would something like that not be able to work?
This is a game, a platformer with progression. A start and a soon end. If only are coming back to play every new update you aren't a player of the game but only the new stages. If you downloaded the game this wouldn't be an issue since saves are carried over versions but you have no interest in the game as a whole so why would you.
Here Comes Hope is the 4th last stage and you expect it to be easy. If you played the full game rather than rushing through it just the play the new stages you would have learned the skills to beat it. Funny how you mention the difficult part and the say exactly how to beat it, with a bit of patience.
Reflect was an amazing stage and such a creative way to reuse assets. If you want the game to go quickly the play it quickly.
In the past when I opened up my browser to play the game it would always start me completely over. Checking it now, it is actually saving my progress? I guess the game will save your progress if you have a profile with this website? This is the only recent change I can think of that may have resulted in this new development for me.
Not the dev, but if you play all of the levels in order you shouldn't have to replay any levels, since it unlocks the next level instantly (in fact, since Ina's and Moona's levels unlock at the same time, the level unlocks should be ahead by 1)
To clarify for you, when I was talking about replaying levels, I was speaking in the context of having played previous versions of the game in the past. Thus in this version, where stages are locked by progression, I was essentially being forced to replay older levels to gain access to the newer levels.
I found a post by KevinCow that seems to address, albeit indirectly, most of my questions, and would like to quote the relevant sections here.
. . . “You're right that I don't have deadlines, but I still have limited energy. I've been working on this game that I can't monetize for nearly a year, and I'm kinda burned out. I need to finish it up.”
[. . .]
“And since the next update will be the last, with a Kiara level and Calli boss fight, this level would give Gura at least some stage representation.”
Honestly, I don't enjoy it as much with the level progression. I'd rather do have all levels accessible to me with download. I haven't played since gura was the newest thing.
Overall I don't want to spend time redoing levels that took me hours to complete to access new content. There are 2ish levels that I actually wanted to play, but I lost any motivation to do so.
Please make a way to disable the progression!!! This would be amazing!
Is there a possibility of making a version that has everything unlocked automatically? I liked being able to play the new stuff when an update would come out, and I imagine it would be a bit annoying in future updates to have all your progress reset.
I really like the design of the new Irys stage its really AMEzing. that being said I think it was lame and a little lazy to just reuse assets for the Gura stage and then add tridents. you could have had a whole undersea level where you jumped from shrimp to shrimp avoiding fishhooks or something but instead you made basically the same stage. not only that but it was super easy compared to the stage it took assets from. I am really disappointed.
The Gura stage only exists because I realized I could reuse the assets of the Irys stage to make a different kind of stage. I know it's not as exciting as a more uniquely Gura stage would've been, but I'm a solo dev with limited time, energy, and artistic talent.
The choice wasn't between that or a more uniquely Gura stage. The choice was between that or no Gura stage.
The fact that you are a "solo dev" means that you work at your own pace and at the effort YOU want to put in. There is no due date on this project. If you did not want to make Gura her own level then sure that's your choice but don't make excuses. You have shown in the past you are more than capable enough, that's why I said I was disappointed. If you need more time to make more stages then take more time or if you just don't want to make certain stages just say that. But do not give me the old Yandere Dev lines please.
I put exactly as much time and effort into this update as I wanted to. I'm happy with how it turned out.
I'm making the game I want to make. I hope other people enjoy it, and I'm open to good faith criticism that would help more people enjoy it, but at the end of the day I'm making it because I like making it and I'm sharing it because other people seem to enjoy playing it.
If you're so unhappy with my game that you feel the need to fling insults at me, calling me lazy and accusing me of making excuses, then you're free to play something else or make your own.
I said that making a stage reusing all the assets from a previous stage instead of using new assets is "lazy". Meaning not as much effort was put into making the stage as the other ones because you did not want to put as much effort into making that stage. Which is true but I apologize for my particular language causing offense. I took the fact that you are a solo dev as an excuse because you managed to make lots of amazing stages that I love including the most recent one for Irys even though you are just one guy and all that it would take to make a more unique stage for her is to take more time to make it which you can do because being a solo dev you have no deadline. However me not being the developer have no say in whether the effort or time will be put into it or not, only what I would like as a consumer/player. Gura is one of my favorite Hololive EN members and I just want her to have her own unique stage like some of the other girls. If you don't want to make it that way fine but it will end up making some people including myself unhappy. If that is ok with you or you don't care then keep on going, I wish you the best.
I like Gura too. That's why she was the first alternate character I added to the game, and why there are three versions of her.
But there are nearly 50 members in Hololive. As much as I'd like to give all of them a completely unique stage and make them playable so everyone's favorite is fully represented, that's just not realistic. You're right that I don't have deadlines, but I still have limited energy. I've been working on this game that I can't monetize for nearly a year, and I'm kinda burned out. I need to finish it up.
The Reflect level didn't happen because I thought, "Well I want to make a Gura level, but I don't want to actually put any effort into it."
It happened because I thought, "Oh hey, this red shader I accidentally made is pretty cool, but it wouldn't fit on this IRyS level since her whole thing is black and white. Maybe I could use it on an alternate to the IRyS level so this update can have two levels? But what song could I use? Oh hey, the red effect plus the gravity mechanic could fit the dark reflection theme of Reflect. Have the whole level reflected on the bottom, and the second half of the level is traversing the same obstacles but in the opposite direction. And since the next update will be the last, with a Kiara level and Calli boss fight, this level would give Gura at least some stage representation."
I'm sorry you don't think I did Gura justice. If you want more dedicated Gura content in a fangame, I recommend GuraQuest.
Ame's Office to Ame's Office Revengence Pop on Rocks to Nothing Here to Hope to Reflect Shuba to Reine Gura to Buff Gura to Cat Gura Ame to Watson TTM planets to MM Onigiri Other assets: Spikes, tables, corkboard, pink clouds The reusing of assets is so creative that Kevin able to turn it around.
The characters I could see as different skins except for Reine which got kinda gypped. As for the first 2 extra levels those were just harder versions of the same stage while Gura is a completely different person in Hololive and one of the more popular ones so I was disappointed because I like Gura and wanted her to get her own stage rather than a reskin of the same stage Irys got. The spikes randomly thrown into different stages were not there before and were only put there in this update and the pink clouds were only in red heart. He had a completely different feel and platforming style as well as assets for each of the stages and each new stage felt fresh and exciting and kept me coming back for more. until the resent update when he seemed to reuse things a little more than usual. I know he has the ability to do it because he has done it with so many more stages he just didn't do it with Gura.
Thank you so much for so much extra content on a free game. You clearly put in so much effort to not only make this in the first place but also update it with new levels, characters and improvements.
I've been playing since the OkaKoro update, have enjoyed every moment of gameplay, and admittedly got an odd sense of pride from getting Case Closed on Red Heart on my first try.
The only issue I've encountered with the game is that I recently got a new PC, and for whatever reason, my progress didn't carry over when I zipped and transferred the game files. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for the save data?
I really have no words, so I'll put it simple, my favorite level is To The Moon, from the art, to the music, passing through the mechanics, I love everything of it. BUT, what the heck with the level NOTHING that one really drained my sanity, the last part was too hard for me, 44 minutes... I love it though. And Inumore is... hard too, I just focused in finish it, I didn't even try the other 2 objectives.
I look forward to the next update(s), I do love your work, thank you. <3
Hello, I hope you are still working on this game, I have downloaded the game and can't launch it. it says "couldn't switch to requested monitor resolution"
Do you have to unlock the ability to change characters? I can't find anywhere to do so. Fairly certain I have the most recent version as well since I played the Ina level, and I can't find a way to swap characters in the web version either.
Just hit escape to access the menu, then use left or right to select character, then hit enter to confirm your choice, then hit escape to leave the menu, and then enter a level and you'll have your chosen character
Oh, I figured it was something super simple that I was just thinking too hard to understand. I could've sworn there was a button you had to ground pound in order to swap characters, at least that's how it was back when Gura was added I think. Thanks for the help!

Actually, you can copy your old unityplayer.dll file to the new version, it will keep your progress
The issue lies that there were new levels that were added since I've played that I am not exactly interested in playing.

IT UPDATE
jk:)
it update! :)

Hi, I am playing your game but Somehow the character moves left automatically even though I didn't press it.
This might be an issue with a USB device being recognized as a gamepad. Like if you have a flight stick or something plugged in.
I think this will be fixed in the next update.
Does anyone know the keyboard command to make the game full screen on mac? I forgot. I don't mean ctr+cmd+f, that makes the browser fullscreen.
I'm waiting for macOS version of the game!
How to download on Mac?
I just try and it is a folder in Finder
Played after the Coco update. Lot's added from when Ame and Gura played it. Glad you are still updating the game. Take care Kevin.
The save file is at C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\LocalLow\MooCow Games\Smol Ame\save.dat
Found it. Thank you so much! :D
Surprised that Holo Bass's track is still on here AND is being played on Hololive streams after COVER and the rabid fanbase messed with him :/
I asked him if he wanted me to take it out, and he said it was fine to leave it in.
Check your facts, please.
I really like the Ame theme on the main scene. Super calm. 10/10
nice (smol review)
android port when?
Flawless.
I really have no words, so I'll put it simple, my favorite level is To The Moon, from the art, to the music, passing through the mechanics, I love everything of it. level that has a carrot behind you when you start completely crashed my computer
Try lowering your video quality
You know its smol when it says smol in the title :D
I love this!
Hello, I hope you are still working on this game, I have downloaded the game and can't launch it. it says "couldn't switch to requested monitor resolution"
yea
Haven't played this awesome game in a while, but finally caught up. Love it! Hope there's a real Rushia level at some point!
Your "Nothing" level was really impressive to me. That part at the end where it bent physics really bent my mind. Took me forever to beat it.
Thanks for the great experience and I hope you continue your work! The levels really feel better and better as they come out!
P.S. Your Ina level was perfect. Just what I needed after the stressful levels of OkaKoro. Haha. :)
True, it took me 44 minutes to finish that level, and somehow knowing that I'm not the only one who struggled with it recovers my sanity in 1%.
You guys cleared that stage?
Yes I did, it wasn't easy though, but the music kept me going, I actually enjoyed it more than Inumore (I couldn't find one Bubba!). ._.
Do you have to unlock the ability to change characters? I can't find anywhere to do so. Fairly certain I have the most recent version as well since I played the Ina level, and I can't find a way to swap characters in the web version either.

Omg what's happening with Russia level?!
Are you still alive Kevin!!Hey Kevin, is there any email in which I can contact you? I'm a dev myself and I'd like to exchange some quick words with you if that's okay.
I'd be happy to talk, but I don't really want to give my email address out. Could you DM me on Twitter?
Sure thing, I'll try to find you there. Thanks.
You go dude
I hope this game could get mobile port, i want to play this game but i don't have a pc. Hope the dev would kindly port this game
This looks interesting.
It seems I'm on the latest update but I don't have Ina bgm in game?
要怎麼更新呢?
Download the new version. It will keep your save file.
下载新版本。它将保留你的保存文件。
Me gustaría un port para psp de este maravilloso juego.
PD:i love you
Menu: "Ground pound to start"
Me: "This is beautiful!"
The Soundtrack List has not updated (no Ina's BGM)
You have an old version still.
Shuba Glide, (Sorry for low quality)
I can ground pound now, but I don’t know why it’s still drifting
Inescapable
Inascapable
I can’t argue with logic like that.
