So it is now known that the amount of speed you get from the big slide at the end of stage 1 on the slope is dependent on monitor framerate. I just did a test on 60hz vs 144hz monitor and on 60hz you literally can't get speed from the slope at all while on 144hz you can get insane speed from it to fly/jump across to the end. Not sure if you can do anything to fix this but its a huge problem because some people can't even Speedrun it if they wanted to now. So if it cant be fixed then separate categories will have to be made for different monitor framerates.
Yeah I noticed that inconsistency in the videos, been looking into it. I thought I programmed the physics to be framerate independent, but Unity can be weird.
Using deltaTime in Update. But that wasn't the issue. It was just a weird Unity physics thing. I just changed it so I manually calculate the boost speed based on the slope angle instead of letting Unity do whatever it was doing, and it works fine now.
Ah, gotcha. To be fair, physics stuff is usually better off using fixed time for this very reason. This article is really helpful in understanding; maybe it'll be useful to you. The article discusses this from the angle of a different issue, but applying physics using regular deltaTime is impacted by framerate.
I think this could be optimized more by hitting the edge of the second floating book (around 0:11) to reach the book with less waiting time. Also someone posted that apparently you can jump off the book at around (0:17) without lag, might be timing related though. Cool run!
I want to say that it doesn't matter too much. I think the critical point is the green book at 0:17. If you slow yourself down enough, you can clear the corner to keep some speed instead of hard stopping.
The downloaded version is always slightly going left for me? I even unplugged any my controllers and it's still doing it. EDIT: Apparently unplugging my PS4 wireless adapter fixed it, weird.
Amezing game, you're a legend. Downloaded game is definitely really smooth and love the sound effects. However, the in-browser game demo seems to have a bug where max jump-height can't clear the first large book-stack, thus you can't really playtest the game. I compared it to the downloaded version and there is definitely a jump-height discrepancy. Was using Google Chrome. Love the work though.
Fair enough criticisms. I've had enough people say they aren't fans of the camera that I might have an option for a more standard 2D camera. Keeping track of collectibles and deaths is planned, just haven't done it yet.

But yeah I think the super jump with the book at the beginning is going to be the only way to get sub 15 now.

I think you should keep it because it would make things more interesting for Speedrunners. I don't think it would happen enough to normal players to really be an annoyance and cause any harm. But also if you remove it I'll just keep playing on the vanilla version for the sake of faster times in the future. You could remove it and have the removed and non removed versions both available but honestly I don't think its that big of a deal for the general public that will play this game. And for Speedrunners it seems to be the next big key to getting crazy times so I ask that you keep it please.
You can actually do it without dying too. I pulled it off in a speedrun before I knew the optimized route for 30 seconds. It's really fucking rare tho and even when it happens you die most of the time
-Rapidly pressing W and S on this platform (not sure about others) can lead to Ame being yeeted into the sky forever and never falling back down. -Holding or tapping the Xbox Controller's X button on loading up the game will soft lock it with ame in her standing pose when it does load.

This is... okay. I'm not a big fan of the shifting camera messing me up on jumps, or the mixing of 2d Ame with 3d everything else.
While the collectibles and death count don't necessarily need to do anything, it would be nice to track them and let us know how we did.
